Jared's Day

Jared's Day

Jared at the cabin with a custom built marshmellow shooter

In keeping with the monthy anniversary of the birthday theme, Yesterday was Jared's day. (Just for clarification, Monday was not Dustin's birthday, just the February monthly aniversary of his birthday.)

Jared is a pretty incredible kid. He has more energy than just about anyone I know. He can do just about anything and make it look easy. He is kind and thoughtful and very willingly shares with others. He is all about the rules and ensuring that everything is fair and even. He doesn't like me to say this, but I have a feeling that whatever he does will somehow include being a lawyer. Jared is our mediator and moderator. Jared is really into reading, taking pictures, playing legos and making shops (more about that in a later post). Jared has been enjoying singing in the school choir and participating in the hand ensemble.

I am glad that Jared is in our Family, he keeps things interesting and lively. I love spending time with him.

Monday Madness!

Whew, what a day! I really get a lot of energy out of Sundays. I really enjoy serving in my calling at church, and being among the other members. Though once I make it through the Sunday funnies (note: the Sunday Funnies have nothing to do with comics or newspapers!), I begin to dread the coming Monday. Christina calls it the Sunday night blues. Today was no exception. I wish we could have Sunday more that once a week, maybe even every other day!

Dustin's Day!

I heard a clip on the radio a few weeks ago a tip for being a better parent. This tip suggested celebrating or doing something special for your child on the aniversary of their birthday each month. Well, today is the anniversary of Dustin's birth. I am very proud of Dustin for many things, and I am pleased he could be part of our family. Here are a couple things that I am proud of Dustin for:
  • Preparing and giving a talk in Primary, even though he didn't really want to. He didn't even complain. I was home with Carol, so I missed it, but we are going to have him give it to the family later.

  • Dustin has really put a lot of effort into learning math. He has come a long way in a short time. I think that secretly he really likes it now!

  • Dustin has recently discovered that he likes to take things apart especially if they are electronic or mechanical. - What else can I say, I'm thrilled. He has already asked if he can take apart my ipod or my laptop, or the TV. He is already up on me, because at least he asks, I don't think I ever did. (by the way, the answer was no!)
  • I am really proud of Dustin for his newly found ability to memorize. He discovered it while trying to learn the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. He know has memorized quite a few scriptures and Articles of Faith.

Well, thats it for today! Happy Monday!

Cold, you have no idea!

This past week I had the opportunity of traveling to Winnipeg, Artic Circle ...whoops, I mean Canada.

I was there with a couple collegues to check out a call center that we are considering using for our In-Flight Broadband project http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=92562&p=na048&ID=1098933&highlight= The meetings went okay, but the most interesting part of the trip (besides nonreving there and back) was how blasted cold it was.

The high while we were there was -4 and with the windchill, it was like -11. The low while we were there, was something like -25 with the windchill it was something like -40. We didn't spend any time outside other that running to the car and back to the building. All I can say is that it was really cold. It reminded me of being in Northern Sweden during the winter time and having the cold wind off the sea cut right straight through you.

I was amazed at how warm it was inside of buildings. They sure must use different doors and windows there then we use here in the south.

I was also amazed at how friendly and happy the people were. I also had some BBQ ribs there that would rival any I have had anywhere! Whooda thunk!

Where in the World??

As you will notice on the side, I have created a poll to determine where I will be traveling next. Now the answers are not real (I wish Hawaii was in the travel plans!), but I do want you to try and guess where I will be next. At this point I don't even know myself, so as I find out, maybe I will give you some hints. I will give away a fabulous prize to whoever guesses closest. (Hopefully we won't have to settle for State or Country)

OK - I finally got this going!

I have been thinking about dong a blog for quite some time now, but I finally got to it. I have been helping Nicole get her blog set up and I have been amazed at Jill's Blog http://jklmforsgrenfam.blogspot.com for quite some time, so I finally got to it while I was home from church with Carol. Carol has the same cough, fever, and headache that has been going around. She wanted to watch High School Musical, and wanted me to be "right next to beside" her while she watched it. Since she was sick, I couldn't really tell her no, but it allowed me to work on the blog! (hehe!)

I am not really very creative, but I do feel like I need to record and share some of my thoughts. I plan on sharing the funny and cool things that happen within my family. I also happen to travel a fair amount, (ok, Christina says I am gone alot) so I plan on sharing the crazy things that happen to me while up, up, and away!

Now if I can just get Christina to blog!

Hey, does this count as writing in a journal?
